IFE AGM and Rasbash Lecture

We are delighted to announce this year’s 102nd AGM will take place as a hybrid event on 16th July 2025 hosted in Stratford-Upon-Avon. For the first time, IFE members have the opportunity to attend this event in-person or online.

Formal notice of the meeting will be sent to members in June 2025.

Rasbash Lecture 2025

The Rasbash Lecture will also be held as part of this event and welcomes members and non-members. This event honours the legacy of Professor David Rasbash, a trailblazer in fire safety engineering. This esteemed event features the presentation of the Rasbash Award, given to an individual recognised for their outstanding contributions to fire safety engineering education, research and practice on a global scale.

About this year's Rasbash recipient
This year's lecture is presented by Martin Shipp BSc (Physics) CPhys MInstP CEng FIFireE, and is entitled 'Participating in history - fire investigation and research'. Martin is a highly experienced fire safety specialist with expertise in fire investigation and building regulations.

His career has spanned roles in British Aerospace and BRE where he contributed to investigations into major fire incidents, including Piper Alpha (1988), Windsor Castle (1992), the Channel Tunnel (1996) and Lakanal (2009). He assisted the BRE team, working with the Metropolitan Police on Grenfell Tower (2017).

His experimental work over the years, mostly for government clients, has included burning cars, caravans, tyres, marquees, nitrate film, aerosol cans, and mobility scooters. In 1992, Martin carried out research into fire safety on the International Space Station with the European Space Agency, which included carrying out experiments in micro-gravity during parabolic flight.

Drinks reception: In-person delegates are invited to join Martin for an informal drinks reception following the lecture. This will take place in the hotel 17:30-18:30.
