Results from a series of large-scale balcony fires

Hosted by the IFE Norfolk and Suffolk Branch.

Join us for a fascinating presentation on the outcomes of a major research project investigating fire spread between balconies. Conducted on behalf of the Building Safety Regulator at the Health and Safety Executive, this study provides critical insights into balcony fire behaviour based on a series of eight large-scale tests carried out at the Efectis laboratory in Northern Ireland.

The session will outline the research stages and focus on the experimental setup, variables considered, and key findings – including how different balcony configurations performed in terms of fire spread, temperature, heat flux, and heat release rates. The outcomes are highly relevant to current thinking on building safety and future regulatory developments.
