IFE partners with EEDI specialists to foster greater inclusivity across global membership

The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) has announced it is teaming up with Equity Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EEDI) specialists, EqualEngineers, to develop and evolve the organisation’s approach to EEDI. Marking a pivotal step, and in line with the IFE’s forthcoming new strategy, the partnership will ensure that the IFE continues to create a more inclusive environment for its diverse membership.

As the first key action, the IFE will conduct a comprehensive survey, inviting input from its entire membership. The survey will capture the values and collective experiences of members regarding diversity and inclusion. The results will aid the IFE in understanding what matters most to its members and how the organisation can best support them and drive change across the fire sector.

The feedback gathered from the survey will serve as the foundation for a series of member-led focus groups to take place in 2025. This will allow IFE members to take an active role in driving EEDI initiatives within the organisation and the broader global fire sector.

IFE Chief Executive, Steve Hamm, comments: "We are committed to ensuring that the IFE fosters a truly inclusive environment for all fire engineers. Working with our members, we will influence and implement lasting change across the sector on a global scale, to drive meaningful change and create a brighter, more equitable path forward for those within the fire profession.”

EqualEngineers, a renowned advocate for creating diverse and inclusive engineering sectors, brings its expertise and experience to this initiative. Together, the IFE and EqualEngineers will review current practices, identify areas for improvement, and implement impactful and measurable actions that reinforce the IFE’s commitment to EEDI.

Dr Mark McBride-Wright, Founder and Managing Director of EqualEngineers, expressed his passion for the collaboration: "We’re really pleased to work alongside the Institution of Fire Engineers. As global leaders within the fire sector, their mission to enhance EEDI within their membership and the wider sector is truly fantastic and speaks volumes."

The survey launches to IFE members on 1st October. Information about how to take part will be issued to members this week and further information about the focus groups will be shared in due course.
