Interim registration is available to those in the initial professional development stage of a career in engineering. If you have achieved a qualification that is accepted for Chartered Engineer registration but have yet to gain sufficient experience in the workplace to meet all of the UK-SPEC standards, then interim registration is an important step for you.
Attaining Interim Registration for CEng demonstrates your commitment to your career and the profession and confirms that you have completed learning that provides the underpinning knowledge and understanding for your chosen professional title.
Once you have built up sufficient experience (5 years is indicative) then your application for full Chartered Engineer status will be streamlined.
Benefits of becoming an Interim Registration for CEng:
The assessment standards for Interim Chartered Engineer also satisfy the requirements for Associate grade of IFE membership. You can therefore apply for Interim CEng registration and Associate (AIFireE) via a single application. If you are looking to become Interim registered as a Chartered Engineer, please apply for this rather than applying for Associate alone. A successful Interim application will attain Associate membership automatically.
When you are ready to apply for Interim Registration for CEng, download the application form and submit it to us along with your supporting documentation, Professional Review Report and application fee. If you live outside of the UK, we encourage you to contact your local branch to apply. Where a branch is unavailable, you prefer to deal with us directly or you live in the UK please use our application form.
