If you live in the UK, go to membership to find out which option is most relevant for you then complete the online application form. You might also want to contact your local branch in the UK to find out more about us. If you live outside the UK please contact your local branch directly. If there is no local branch near you, then please go to membership to find out which membership is most relevant for you and complete an online form. If you require further advice or assistance, please email membership@ife.org.uk with your CV, qualification certificates and experience.

There are options if you do not hold any formal qualifications. You could join as an Affiliate or if you are in fire-related studies you could join as a Student member. If you have substantial fire-related experience you may be eligible to apply for other grades using a Technical Report/Individual Assessment route.

The IFE recognises a wide range of qualifications for membership, meaning you don't need to have taken IFE exams. Visit our how to choose membership page for more information.

To verify a membership, please visit our directory. IFE members need to opt into this directory so if a search does not return a result, it does not necessarily mean the individual is not an IFE member. In this case, you should contact our membership team by calling 01789 261463.

Yes. The IFE supports members in maintaining their CPD by providing events, an online CPD Hub and a CPD logging system. Our branches hold events throughout the year which carry CPD hours and the IFE also allocates CPD to specific training courses which are available on our website under the Training and Development Directory. If you are running an event and would like IFE CPD hours allocated, please click here.

The IFE’s current policy for Lifetime membership is as follows;

Members of at least fifteen years standing may, from 1 January in the year following attainment of the age of 65, make payment of twice the Fellowship annual subscription which shall entitle them to remain members of the appropriate class during their lifetime without the payment of any further annual subscription.

The IFE does not offer a rate for retired members, however we do offer a Lifetime membership option, details of which can be found within these FAQs.

Reinstating IFE graded membership is relatively straightforward and there is no need to complete a fresh application form. However, you will need to access MyIFE and update your personal details, including; email address, telephone number, address and employment details.

In order to process the reinstatement of your membership we require the following:

  • An up to date current CV
  • A CPD log covering the past 12 months showing relevant industry content with clear learning outcomes
  • A non-refundable reinstatement application fee of £93.00
  • Past IFE membership reference number if you know it
  • Date of birth – this helps us to locate your past record

Upon receipt of the reinstatement fee and required documents, your reinstatement application will be put forward to the Membership Application Assessment Panel for review. Upon successful award of your reinstatement, you will be required to pay the full membership grade fee. Please note reinstatement will not be complete until all fees and subs have been received by IFE International HQ.

All documents and information can be emailed to us at membership@ife.org.uk

Please note if you want to reinstate registration of any type, please contact us for further information regarding this.

To regrade your membership, log in to your MyIFE account and complete the online application relating to the grade you wish to progress to. Upon completion of the application, it will be recognised that you are an existing IFE member and you will be asked to pay the regrade fee.

No. The application fee that you pay is for the grade that you have applied for regardless of the grade you are ultimately awarded. If you are unsure which grade you should be applying for, please use our online guidance tools before applying to check that you meet the requirements for that grade.

It is important to note the correct order for your post nominals. Information on their use and the correct order can be found here.
