Information on key dates and results for the March 2025 exam session

From March 2025, the Institution of Fire Engineers is pleased to announce that our Passive Fire Protection exams (Level 2 and Level 3) will be available online in a multiple-choice format, providing a more accessible and flexible testing experience for all candidates. For more information on our Online Exam platform, please click here.

The Level 2 Passive Fire Exam will also see an update in structure to better support focused learning and specialisation. This exam will be divided into four separate Awards, each containing 25 questions and a 30 minute time limit. Each Award will cover one relevant Passive Fire topic along with questions on Fire and Fire Protection. Candidates who complete and pass all four Awards within a 5 year timeframe will be awarded a Level 2 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection. For more information, please explore the syllabus here.

This new structure will allow candidates to deepen their expertise in specific areas of interest within Passive Fire, while still maintaining comprehensive knowledge across all key topics. We are excited to bring this opportunity to our members and hope this change will make it even easier to achieve professional qualifications in Passive Fire Protection.
