Hosted by the IFE London branch
Join us for an
online webinar event discussing the many fire safety challenges fire engineers face both in the modern terrestrial environment and in space. This is a
1 hour CPD event taking place on
21st July between 14:00 and 15:00.
Synopsis
The discussion in this event will cover:
- The risks associated with emerging clean energy sources
- The complexities pf fire management in sustainable high-rise buildings
- The altered behaviour of fire in microgravity
- Fire behaviour in high-oxygen environments
In his discussion of these topics, Dr. Ankit Sharma will use recent research and experimental work from both Earth-based laboratories and from aboard the International Space Station to deepen our understanding of fire dynamics in an ever-advancing world, and indeed beyond.
About the speaker
Dr. Ankit Sharma, PhD, is a Lead Research Consultant at Jensen Hughes, USA, specializing in Fire Science and Safety. His expertise ranges span experimental research, and modeling across areas such as energy storage, built environments, micro- and partial gravity, hydrogen, and others.
Dr. Sharma earned his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Previously, he has worked at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Johns Hopkins University, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) on a NASA-sponsored project, and at ARUP offices in India and the UK.
In 2023, he received the 5 Under 35 Award from the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), USA. He was also a 2022 SFPE Foundation Grand Challenges Initiative Fellow for Climate Change, developing a 10-year strategic engagement plan on how fire safety science and engineering can help address climate challenges.
Dr. Sharma is actively engaged with international organizations including NFPA, ICC, SFPE, ASTM, UL, IAFSS and ASGSR. He serves on editorial and review boards for NASA, NSF, various journals, and conferences. His research portfolio includes patents and publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, books, and industry magazines. Dr. Sharma currently co-chairs the SFPE Foundation’s Energy and Infrastructure Group and serves as co-subgroup leader of the IAFSS LOF&BE Emergency Management and Evacuation (EME) group.
