The process of shaping the IFE’s 2025-2029 strategy is underway, with the phase 1 virtual strategy development sessions successfully held in March. Thank you to all those who attended and gave their input to the process. These sessions were centred around a strategic analysis of the global fire safety context and provided the opportunity for delegates to share their thoughts on what the strategic issues are and where there are opportunities for improvement.
Phase 1 outcomes
The sessions provided valuable feedback, by members from 25 different IFE branches and with delegates spanning 11 different countries worldwide. Phase 1 sessions gathered data on the operating context of the IFE, using the PESTLE analysis method which studies the key external factors (political, economic, sociological, technological, legal and environmental) that influence an organisation. The outputs have enabled us to identify the following strategic themes:
- The need to coordinate the Institution’s identity/purpose to lobby for a safer future
- Develop a greater role for the Institution in making the world safer from fire
- Create an inclusive, comprehensive approach to understand the different contexts of fire safety
- Achieve demonstrable impacts through learning, data and case studies

This week sees the completion of phase 2 sessions and the launch of a survey for IFE members to play a role in our strategy development and contribute their thoughts. Members will have received an invitation via email earlier this week to take part and submit their views before the closing date of 19th April 2024. If you are a member and you haven’t received this communication, please contact marketing@ife.org.uk.
