Further to our previous article, the strategy engagement workshop phases are now complete. We would like to thank those who took the time to attend the sessions and to members who have completed the online feedback survey.
Data analysis
The feedback channels in the phase 1 workshops received over 500 items of feedback and data from members and external organisations representing 25 different branches. The analysis of this feedback identified four strategic themes.
The analysis continued with the phase 2 workshops, where nearly 600 items of additional feedback and data were received from IFE members, further increasing the international representation to 32 different branches. This allowed the attribution of a score to each of the strategic areas on how relevant and important they are for consideration within the strategy period covering 2025 to 2029.
The data received reinforced the expectations that all the themes identified in phase 1 were both important to the IFE and relevant for consideration in the new strategy. However, some themes ranked comparatively higher than others, with themes in the following order:
- Purpose and identity of the IFE – A recognised need to align the institution's identity/purpose to effectively advocate for a safer future
- Expanding the role of the IFE in fire safety – Enhancing the institution's role in making the world safer from fire
- Achieving impact through learning and data – Demonstrating tangible impacts through continuous learning, data analysis and case studies
- Promoting inclusivity in fire safety – A call for a more comprehensive approach to understand the different contexts of fire safety to ensure inclusivity
Next steps
Whilst considering the comments received during phase 2, the strategic themes have been scrutinised and subsequently will be transformed into strategic objectives. These objectives will assist in the development of an outline strategy which will be presented to the Board of Trustees and following this, the International General Assembly.
